There were never any "good old days" — they are today, they are tomorrow
I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing

Apparently Tim Powers' book On Stranger Tides has been optioned for the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

On one hand, I quite like the book. On the other hand, I haven't been liking or wanting to see movies lately.

And on the gripping hand, mad cow American disease, anyone?

It's my understanding (via stevebarr, who is/was sufficiently dialed in to The Industry for me to give this credence) that the creative team had already done a treatment when they discovered the similarities to the novel, so they bought the rights to cover their legal liabilities.

Personally, I'm stupidly excited about this, not simply because I loved the book, but because Powers is Author Guest of Honor at the Reno WorldCon not quite three months after the movie is slated for release, so I'm seeing the potential for all kinds of goodies at the convention.

Foo.

I for years would have loved to see OST as an actual movie itself, but PotC has such momentum...

Then again, I haven't been a big movie-goer for years now.
