It doesn't seem to work on the email comment notifications, either. Hm.

Well, that was using the <abbr> tag with the title attribute, like so. (The code is <abbr title="Whatever you want the hovertext to say">the plaintext</abbr>)

Apparently you can also use an anchor tag, like so. (That one is <a title="Hovertext goes here">plaintext goes here</a>)

Although on LJ it seems that it doesn't necessarily highlight the anchor. So, lemme try that again, adding a <b>: like so. (To do that, it's <a title="Hovertext goes here"><b>plaintext goes here</b></a>)

ETA: Cool! Using the <a> tags does work in the email notifications. Okay, preferred way of breaking rules has been identified! *grin*
