I love summer farmers' markets

Especially the one in Old Oakland, which tends to have much better prices than Grand Lake. Today I got six generous bunches of basil for $4, three bunches of kale and a bunch of beets with usable greens ($1 each), and a nice bouquet of sunflowers for $3.

No stone fruits though, unfortunately — it's just too early. Everything I tried (nectarines, peaches, plums, pluots, and apricots) was too underripe.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a whole lot of produce to go wash and prep for the fridge...
