There were never any "good old days" — they are today, they are tomorrow
I love summer farmers' markets

food, Bascove peaches
Especially the one in Old Oakland, which tends to have much better prices than Grand Lake. Today I got six generous bunches of basil for $4, three bunches of kale and a bunch of beets with usable greens ($1 each), and a nice bouquet of sunflowers for $3.

No stone fruits though, unfortunately — it's just too early. Everything I tried (nectarines, peaches, plums, pluots, and apricots) was too underripe.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a whole lot of produce to go wash and prep for the fridge...

You're right, the stone fruits are underripe. I'll wait to eat them.

I was actually there this morning, then at Shan Dong, then back there afterwards.. but probably before you got there. I did see the sunflowers but missed the basil. Probably the awesome aroma from the Vietnamese stand with cilantro and those strange red/green leaf things that they can never give me the English name for distracted me.
