There were never any "good old days" — they are today, they are tomorrow
Birds of different feathers not flocking together

I love spring, and one of my favorite things about it is all the birdsong. When the mock orange in front of our apartment building is fragrant and the house finches start singing, it's spring!

The other morning I was up early doing my Egoscue exercises and listening to a bird with a very monotonous call. Cheeeep! Cheeeep! Cheeeep! Cheeeep!

"Sheesh," I thought, "that robin is getting annoying. I wish the finches would wake up and start singing. Lazy slugabeds."

And then it struck me: finches are seed-eaters. They don't care if the early bird gets the worm — they don't want it, so they might as well stay cozily tucked into the nest until the sun comes up!
