I don't quite get MySpace...

Admittedly, I've only looked at a few people's pages on it, but as far as I can tell, having a MySpace page is like having a LiveJournal with only one post and unthreaded comments.

Am I missing something?

You're not. I hate hate hate the infrastructure of it. So messy. So SLOW to load. Argh.

MySpace is as much about blogging as a prom-night hairdo is about practicality.

It's for seeing and being seen by the teen scene.

Exactly: it has about as little to do with actual content as it can.

Although, to be honest, if you pick completely random LJ journals, many of them are pretty content-free (unless you really cared where someone went last night and how many people they tried to pick up).

The part you're missing is that *everyone* is on it. So occasionally you can find out what happened to that crush you had in summer camp, or whoever.

The blogs over there are horrendous. But you can post flash in people's comment section & carry out your conversations with close friends in public if you like. That's a big part of the popularity.

decidedly not, though if it's that sort of networking you're looking for, might I suggest tribe.net?

provided of course the people you want to network to are there or can be convinced to go there rather than myspace.
