Stunningly beautiful photos of China

oh! the pretty!
Wow. Those ancient Chinese painters weren't making it up, were they?

Mostly photos of the Guilin area of China, although someone who's been there thinks some of them are from southwest China.

Excuse me while this geo-illiterate American goes to find a map of China to see where Guilin is...

Terraced horticulture is so fucking cool.

And you're right, it's hard to remember that paintings of those stunning river valleys and fog-laced mountains are fer real places.

It reminds me of an interview I once read with a photographer who specialized in photos of slot canyons. He said most people simply don't believe him when he tells them he uses no color filters, it's all natural light.

Wow, those are beautiful. BTW I love the new design of your journal!

Thank you! Now that I've been posting more, I find I'm becoming mildly dissatisfied with the layout, though -- there are navigational aspects that I find moderately inconvenient. (Gee, are we surprised that Lexica wants her LJ to be laid out Just Exactly So?) I think I'm going to look into learning how to customize the layout, now that we've got paid accounts.

Hehehe, I'm picky like that too. I finally settled on the current style of my journal because it seemed to be the only one that would show the color codes I assign more prominently; I have over 100 friends, and a LOT of RSS feeds, so everything got assigned a color. Friends are white with red text, Soren is navy blue, food is purple, general news is medium blue, politics is pink, photography is orange, gardening is green ... see matrushkaka.livejournal.com/friends to see what I mean. I don't actually read my friends page at once; I have a lot of filters set up and read what I want when the mood hits, whether that's friends, politics, news, food ... The other LJ styles don't seem to display the assigned friends colors that well.

I did change the font from Times to Arial, because I hate Times.

Also, I have new icons too, like you! I got a little bored ...

Wow! I've always loved the way the rice paddies striated the hillsides, but those are some excellent images. Especially the fourth one, which somehow looks like a land straight out of a fantasy book.

By the way, I finally figured out your handle. For the longest time I wondered how there could have been five hundred and nine Lexicas in line in front of you. *thump* It's not as if spiritualmonkey does not repeat the number time after time. I feel... slow.

Heh. Yeah, I was moderately irked when I discovered that someone had already used up the LJ ID lexica. And they're not even an active LJer - according to their userinfo, they posted for a whopping one month and three days, back in 2001.

Oh, well, At least this way my userid parses nicely into a first name and a last name. :-)

Yeah, I was upset that "merle" was taken, too. At the time there had been no posts there for a year. It's a very sporadic person. Two whole posts this year! And here I'm stuck with an underscore. At least it's not on the front (which does not work with their new (username).livejournal.com things).
